隋煬帝楊廣是隋朝第二代皇帝。他在位期間，窮奢極侈，荒淫無度，花費大量金錢去開通京杭運河。
公元六零五年，楊廣率後妃、近臣、侍衛等二十萬人沿運河巡幸江南。所乘的龍舟富麗堂皇，每艘建有上、中、下三層以及廂房百餘間。當時召用坐船民工八萬余人，男丁不夠，便徵用婦女。
Yang Guang,known as Emperor Yangdi, was the second emperor of the Sui dynasty (581-618).In his fourteen-year reign,he gave himself up to extravagance and debauchery.He spent a vast sum of money for opening a great canal from Beijing to Hangzhou.
In AD 605,accompanied by two hundred thousands of his concubines and officers ,Yang Guang inspected the Jiangnan region along this great canal.They travelled in thousands of dragon boats.each consisted of three levels and over a hundred apartments.Over eighty thousands of boat-hauliers were recruited.They included females due to the shortage of manpower.
